Short- and medium-term pathways to net zero will be the focus of our work in the years to come.

Our work will focus on delivering current commitments, and developing metrics, standards, and practices to maximize members’ and others’ contributions towards a Nature Positive Agenda.

At the catchment level, we will also develop scalable solutions for sustainable water management.

With the Skills Initiative, we will use what we have learned over the last years to define a skills agenda that will build resilience within the mining industry and host communities.

With a particular focus on Indigenous Peoples’ rights and interests, we will build on our long-standing commitment to ensuring the respect for and enhancement of human rights.

remain an enduring challenge for our sector and society at large, as evidenced by troubling findings on workplace culture and practices in the mining and metals sector.

As customers and investors seek assurances about the provenance of responsible minerals and metals, metrics and standards are becoming increasingly important. Through our work in this area, we strive to align on a smaller number of metrics and standards across all aspects of responsible mining.

As part of mining’s contribution to sustainable development, mineral resource governance ensures citizens benefit from the development of these natural resources to the maximum extent possible.

Our work in this area will build on successful closure pilots championed by members to demonstrate that closure can be done in a way that promotes social, economic, and environmental benefits. Mine closure is one of the biggest challenges faced by mining companies.

Ultimately, we want to achieve breakthroughs in eliminating harm; exploring the root causes of why harm continues to occur, and exploring new and unexplored ways to eliminate it.

Engaging with the establishment of the Global Tailings Management Institute (GTMI) to support members in adopting and implementing the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management as quickly and widely as possible. Throughout the mining cycle, we are exploring breakthrough technologies that will significantly reduce tailing production.

Our work will focus on defining the agenda for the mining and metals sector in the circular economy. It is a global imperative for a truly sustainable economy. In light of the inherent circular potential of the mining process, as it moves towards precision mining, we will examine what our sector can contribute.
